Evonik Joins The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA​

Evonik Holding MEA, part of Evonik Industries AG, Essen, Germany, has recently decided to join The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA (a Dubai, UAE Association) as Industrial Partner. Evonik MEA has regional offices in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya. In addition, Evonik also has two production plants in South Africa and in Saudi Arabia.

Münzing Starts Operation of New Production Facility​

Münzing Chemie of Heilbronn, Germany has inaugurated a new production plant for wax and polymer emulsions in Elsteraue, Germany. The manufacturer of chemical additives has invested over 50 mio Euro into the facility, that produces water-based wax emulsions and other special additives such as powder defoamer. 40 new jobs have been created at the new site of a size of 20.000 sq.m. Special attention was paid to energy-saving, a recovery process is supposed to enable a flow-back of 70% of the used energy into the facility.

Arkema to Acquire Polimeros Especiales​

Arkema of Colombes, France, has announced plans to buy aqueous emulsion producer Polimeros Especiales of Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico. Polimeros Especiales produces water-based polymers for a broad range of applications in markets such as paints, textiles, pressure sensitive adhesives and construction. Polimeros Especiales' turnover was 39 mio Euro in 2021 and the company employed 230 people. A transaction value was not disclosed by either party.

Sika Final Takeover of MBCC Targeted for the First Half of 2023​

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland, has now targeted the closing of MBCC Group (former BASF Construction Chemicals, Mannheim, Germany) for the first half of 2023. Reason for this delay (the completion of the takeover was planned by end-2022) is an announced in-depth examination by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Sika has already obtained unconditional acceptance of the takeover by many relevant anti-trust authorities worldwide (e.g. by Brasil, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Turkey). According to Sika, synergies amounting to around 170 mio Euro per year can be expected after completion.
